Wilderness Adventures:

Forest Service and Historic Mining Roads

Your ideal snowmobile adventure awaits you in the Bridge River Valley. From beginners to the adventurous back-country veterans, this snowmobiling paradise will leave a lasting impression.

Forest service roads and historic mining roads provide comfortable riding for beginners of all ages. Kingdom Lake Forest Service road is over twenty kilometers long and easily reached from Gold Bridge. The east and west Hurley roads offer a scenic round trip when snow conditions allow and the Gun Lake and Tyax Lake recreation trail systems offer easily managed routes. The Mud Lake Forest Service road provides good riding with long distance views and can include side trips into Relay Creek, Paradise and Noaxe drainages. All these areas offer potential wildlife encounters and great scenery.

Mountain Trails

Notable back-country destinations include Noel Valley, Taylor Basin, Lone Goat and Slim Creek. These areas offer challenging off trail riding, from hill climbing to waist deep powder. The Bridge River Valley Snowmobile club maintains an emergency shelter in the Lone Goat Creek area, a potential destination for novices when trail and weather conditions permit. There is also an historic mining cabin in the Taylor Creek area.

For further information see Bridge River Valley SledHead News.

Wilderness Fishing

In the winter time, bring your fishing gear and take an ice fishing break at any one of the many lakes these roads access. During the rest of the year, there are many rivers and creeks throughout the valley, and many perfect places to cast away the day. All back country areas are accessed from forest service roads which may or may not be ploughed.

Snowmobiling on ploughed forest service roads is prohibited (however you can trailer in). Mountain Biking and Horseback Riding are ideal in the summer season. Slim Creek is unquestionably the biggest and best of all this area has to offer but be warned, there is thirty kilometers of road riding just to access the trail head. Extra gas, clothing and food should be standard equipment for anyone venturing into this area.

Mountain Bike Riding

Mountain bike tours are available within 15 miles of Gold Bridge. Awesome trails wander through the high country; alpine meadows fill horizons. Favorite destinations are Spruce Lake Area, Bralorne and Gun Lake.  There are also over 20 local trails specifically for mountain bikes.

All high country destinations offer spectacular views and riding experiences unmatched in less mountainous areas. There are hazards however, including avalanches, crevasses, creek crossings and white outs. Know your limitations before heading out, and always inquire locally about trail and weather conditions; both can change quickly.
